What drew you to Red Ledges?
We knew we wanted to build in Utah but being from out of state we did not know where to even start our search for the perfect home. After several months of online research, we had narrowed our search to a few towns and neighborhoods. Red Ledges was the first neighborhood we visited in person, and from the minute we drove through the gate we knew there was no need to look any further. Red Ledges had everything we were looking for: natural beauty, great views from every homesite, quality amenities and a relaxed family friendly atmosphere.
How would you describe your building experience?
Overall, we had a great building experience. Building a house from across the country during a global pandemic, there could have been so many things that could have gone wrong. Fortunately, we had very few minor hiccups in the building process and when things did come up the Red Ledges team was easy to work with and our issues were quickly resolved
What was the most important thing to you when choosing a builder?
We met Rex McGuire when we were still in the process of selecting our lot. What set Rex apart from the other builders we met with is that not only did he show us some of Red Ledges past building projects, he also walked the lots we were considering purchasing and helped us envision the potential homes we could build on the specific lots. It was easy to see his passion for building in this area and we knew he was the one who could best help us build our dream home. In addition to the passion and vision for building we also liked the ease of building with Red Ledges. They were always available for questions and weekly update calls which were quite helpful as we were in Florida most of the time and could not make it to Red Ledges to see the progress as often as we would have liked. They made great use of the CoConstruct app which allowed the building team to regularly upload photos of the progress being made and share documents regarding the house.
What was the timeline of your build? How long did it take?
We purchased our lot in November of 2018 and had our first design meeting to review the architectural renderings in January 2019. After a few changes on the architectural side, we had all plans approved and broke ground in June of 2019. Despite the impact of Covid-19, our house was completed very close to being on schedule in late June of 2020
What is your favorite room in the house and why?
It is so hard to pick just one favorite room. I would have to say that the main living space which includes the kitchen, great room and deck is my favorite area. Our family loves to cook and entertain so we knew we needed to have a substantial area to do so. We love the opening, the wall of doors to the deck, to have this space flow from the inside to the outdoors on to the covered deck. We love how this open concept allows dramatic views and a great perspective of Heber Valley and the surrounding mountains. It is a wonderful place to entertain or to relax and take in the views. We recently enjoyed watching the July 4th and Pioneer Day fireworks from the deck, it is sure to become a family tradition. While we haven’t had the opportunity to use the fireplace in the great room yet, I am sure that will be another favorite area come wintertime.
What was your design inspiration?
Patrick enjoys mountain modern design while I tend to be a bit more traditional, so we decided that a transitional mountain house, blending both of our styles was the way to go. With the amazing views of Mount Timpanogos from our lot we knew that we wanted to have large windows and a lot of deck space to make this a focal point of the home. We also designed our home with our family in mind. We have five children ranging from 7 to 21 years of age so we wanted plenty of areas for them to have fun now with a layout that as the family grows there will still be plenty of space for them to come and enjoy with their own families in the future, making great memories for many generations.
Is there anything else that you would like to say about your home, the build process, etc.?
Rex, Jeff, Mike, Kelly and Laura with Red Ledges Building along with Tim and Tim from the Highland Group Architecture made the experience enjoyable and gave us the opportunity to build the custom home of our dreams in one of the most beautiful valleys in the country. Thank you! Also thank you to our Red Ledges Realtor, Chris Beardsley, for helping us find the perfect lot.
