Park City, Utah (May 12, 2022) — Red Ledges, Utah’s premier four-season mountain community, sponsored a table at the 2022 Spring Luncheon hosted by the Peace House—a nonprofit based in Park City, UT.
The Peace House focuses on creating a community free of interpersonal violence and abuse. Everyday the organization works to achieve their vision by empowering survivors to heal and thrive by providing support services, safe housing, and prevention education.
This vision and mission are essential to the Wasatch and Summit counties. According to Utah’s Public Health Data Resource, one in three women will experience sexual violence during their lives. Likewise, one in six women and one in 25 men will experience rape or attempted rape during their lifetime.
During the 2022 Peace House Spring Luncheon, attendees watched a brief video presentation that contained recordings of 911 calls. Summit County Sheriff Justin Martinez was also included in the video and spoke about the problem of abuse and the resources available within the community.
The keynote speaker for the event was Leslie Morgan Steiner, a New York Times best-selling author, columnist for The Washington Post, and public speaker. Steiner talks about family balance, being a successful corporate executive, and her experience as a domestic violence survivor.
As Steiner spoke at the event, she highlighted environmental and emotional factors that played vital roles in her experience—both as the situation for abuse was established and the milestones she reached on the road to healing, recovery, and peace.
As the event drew to a close, attendees could participate in a paddle raise for specific dollar increments. The Peace House raised this money during the event to provide survivors with the following resources:
- Safe transitional housing and a violence-free future for survivors for 6-14 months.
- Around-the-clock life-saving shelter services to survivors, their children, and pets for 30-90 days.
- A nutritious pantry furnished with meals for families living on the Peace House campus.
- Access to legal protection from abusers—giving survivors space & time for recovery.
- Counseling and mentorship—empowering survivors throughout their healing process.
- 24/7 crisis helpline for anyone affected by domestic violence or sexual assault.
