When we think about winter sports, golf and tennis do not usually come to mind. But, residents of Red Ledges, a private community in beautiful Heber Valley near Park City, enjoy the opportunities to participate in both sports all winter, as well as a plethora of other activities.
The well-known and highly respected Jim McLean Golf School at Red Ledges includes winter training facilities as well as a state-of-the-art golf simulator that is located at the practice center. Members of Red Ledges can get their golfing practices in all winter so they are ready to play on the community’s Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course when the snow is clear.
Tennis can be played at Red Ledges year-round. The tennis courts are enclosed in a bubble to keep the winter outside while the courts are being used and enjoyed. Additionally, their Cliff Drysdale Tennis program at Red Ledges is the first high-altitude tennis school offered by U.S. Open doubles champion and ESPN commentator Cliff Drysdale. The school offers private lessons, group clinics, community tournaments and international exhibitions.
The Jim McLean Golf School and the renowned tennis programs are open for the public to enjoy with pre-scheduled lessons through Red Ledges. Visit RedLedges.com to learn more.
In addition to golf and tennis, traditional winter pastimes are available to members at Red Ledges. The Heber Valley is well known for its winter wonderland-like views and glistening snow. Living At Red Ledges puts residents right in the middle of this beauty and members can participate in fun activities in the midst of the beauty.
Red Ledges Ski Club is for skiers of all levels of experience and abilities. The club’s “home mountain” is Deer Valley Resort, located only 15 minutes away, but they also visit and ski at Alta, Snowbasin, Snowbird and Sundance – just to mention a few. The club gets out together several different times throughout the season. They also ski twice a week on Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout the winter at Deer Valley for Rippin’ Wednesdays and Cruiser Thursdays.
Cross-country skiing is also popular in the mountainous area and many members ski together at Round Valley, in Park City, the Uintas and on Red Ledges property. Red Ledges offers two cross-country ski tours each month.
Invigorating snowshoe and snowmobiling tours for members are held several times per month throughout the winter, as the tours head out to the surrounding mountains and forest. “We also groom an Adventure Trail here on our Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course for members to snowshoe, ski or hike right out of their back doors,” said Stephanie Potempa, activities director. Often about 200 head of elk can be spotted by members who enjoy the trail.
More winter activities are planned by Potempa, including nighttime snowshoeing followed by an amazing dinner in a yurt in the mountains with Wildnerness Access Outfitters and a nighttime owling adventure at Sundance.
According to Potempa, Red Ledges hosts many fun holiday events for kids, including a Family Holiday Celebration at which kids get to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus. They will also decorate ornaments, create arts and crafts, build snowmen and go sledding.
Everything is carefully planned and organized so that residents can choose whatever they would like to do. There is something for everyone and winter is many of the members’ favorite time of year.
