Red Ledges’ Colby Johnson Competes in the FIS Freeski Big Air World Cup in Beijing, China

With the ski season knocking on our door, we wanted to share a fun story about one of our staff members, Colby Johnson. Over the years, Colby has been a valued member of both our Building Maintenance and Pool teams, but when he isn’t working at Red Ledges, you can find him on the slopes across the globe.

Colby is entering his 11th season as a member of the Flying Ace All Stars, which performs each summer at the Utah Olympic Park in Park City. His skiing discipline is freestyle skiing, specifically slopestyle and big air — think of the Winter X Games®! You can check out some of Colby’s skiing on Instagram @colbyjjjohnson. Colby’s path in skiing is not unusual for kids growing up in Utah, except that he has been skiing competitively for more than 14 years. His passion has taken him to many countries across the globe while competing on the NorAm, Europa, and World Cup stages.
The competition requires skiers to hit a massive jump three times while landing two different tricks that spin in two different directions. Judges will score each jump, counting the two best to award an aggregate score. The top 10 skiers from two heats advance to a final round.
With the 2026 Winter Olympics right around the corner, this event serves as a qualifier for most of the world’s best skiers hoping for the Winter Games, and it proved to be a worthy competition. While Colby was unable to make the event finals, he was able to land two solid tricks and finished just outside of the top 20 in his heat. Way to go, Colby!
