22 years later, we can finally say that the Olympics are coming back home. On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) made the announcement every Utahn has been holding their breath for: Salt Lake City will be the host of the 2034 Winter Olympic Games. This announcement comes just days before the start of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games and is sure to give Team USA a boost going into the games.
The 2034 Winter Olympics is 10 years away, so what does this mean for Utah, but more specifically Heber Valley, now?
Heber Valley is already growing, but this announcement will be the catalyst for even more infrastructure improvements. From highway expansions to the revival of Main Street Heber to an increase in lodging and dining options, Heber Valley will begin preparations for the influx of athletes, media, and tourists. The 2034 Olympics will usher Heber Valley into a new, more sustainable era while preserving the quaintness and natural beauty of the town that we all know and fell in love with.
Local businesses will be able to pull from lessons learned from the 2002 Olympics to provide even better experiences for residents and visitors alike and continue to build on the legacy that the 2002 games created.

I would say it’s time to start wearing all your 2002 Olympics gear again, but Utahns never stopped. We already know that Utah has “The Greatest Snow on Earth®” – looks like the IOC agrees!
