Red Ledges’ Past and Present

Jordan family ranch

Experiencing The Legacy,
The Land, and The Luxury

Red Ledges was established in October 2007 as a four-season private enclave of luxury homes with a plan to develop an array of member amenities. While October 2007 is the date that marks the finalization of the master plan and first land sale—the Red Ledges community started taking shape long before.

The Original Legacy

Joyce Jordan Burns, wife of Tony Burns, Red Ledges’ managing partner, is a descendant of John Jordan II, an English immigrant who came west with the pioneers. Once settled in Salt Lake City—Jordan was sent to explore the Heber Valley in 1859 to see if the area was habitable.

After exploring, the Jordan family settled south of the current Jordanelle Dam on a ranch that stretched for miles. Five generations of Jordans lived on the ranch, including Bill and DeEsta Jordan, Joyce Jordan Burns’ parents.

Initially, the Jordan family made a living in the valley by growing hay and eventually started raising livestock. Bill Jordan was one of the first ranchers to raise herds of cattle and sheep together. Family members from later generations built fishing stores and a community dance hall.

The dance hall was initially awarded the name “Jordan L” in a local contest—a combination between the family’s last name and their ranch brand. However, when the name was printed in the Wasatch Wave, it was written out as Jordanelle. The name stuck and is still used and recognized in the valley today.

The Land

Looking for a way to preserve and share the tranquil beauty of the land that had been in the Jordan-Burns family for generations—two Fortune 500 CEOs, Tony Burns and Nolan Archibald, started to amass the land necessary to create Red Ledges. A process that would take 33 years.

The land combined to create Red Ledges is surrounded by majestic towering mountains, vast swaths of parkland, and the natural beauty of verdant meadows and sparkling streams. It is just minutes outside Park City, Utah, and is approximately 45 minutes from the Salt Lake City International Airport.

The Luxury

Co-founders Burns and Archibald knew they wanted to share the beautiful land rich in history with the world. They began envisioning a community that was more than a series of roads and houses. To bring members together in shared experiences, the co-founders made sure to add a series of high-quality amenities to the master plan for the community.

To deliver the right blend of genuine service, luxury, and comfort—Burns relied on the philosophy that life is all about friendships and relationships, and turned to the people he had met during his time as president and CEO of Ryder Systems, Inc. in Miami, Florida, to develop the core amenities:

  • Jim McLean would found the exclusive golf school, one of the finest golf schools in the country.
  • Jack Nicklaus would design a Signature 18-hole Championship course and a first-of-its-kind 12-hole Golf Park.
  • Cliff Drysdale would bring a high-altitude tennis school with vibrant year-round programming.
  • Brenda Metzger, opened KB Horses, our equestrian center and first amenity to open.

In 2009, the Red Ledges Club officially opened. Today, the Club continues to add amenities that provide the best-in-class mountain community experience for our members. To view our list of award-winning amenities, please visit www.redledges.com/amenities.

Adding Your Legacy to the Story

With each passing anniversary, it is an opportunity to celebrate every member who has made Red Ledges their home (or home away from home). Today, Red Ledges is home to neighbors who originated from almost 40 states and at least two foreign countries.

As members spend time together participating in year-round adventures—whether it is joining a community golf tournament, discovering new mountain trails on snowshoes, or enjoying a meal at the Juniper Grill with friends and family—each experience allows members to deepen the history of the land by adding their own story to the Red Ledges’ legacy.

As the community looks forward to the future, we will continue to celebrate everyone in Red Ledges’ past, present, and future.
