Red Ledges Land Development and Heber City held a special ribbon cutting ceremony on September 16, 2022, to celebrate the opening of the new Jordan Park located at 1472 E. Center Street, Heber City, UT 84032.
Joyce Jordan Burns, wife of Tony Burns, Red Ledges co-founder, grew up raising cattle and sheep on the Jordan L Ranch in Heber Valley. However, Burn’s family connection to the land dates back to the valley’s original settlement.
Burns is a descendant of John Jordan II, an English immigrant that came west with the pioneers. Once settling in Salt Lake City—Jordan was sent to Heber Valley to see if it was habitable. After exploring the valley, the Jordan family settled the area between what is now the Jordanelle Dam and the sanitation barns.
The Jordan family tried several ways to make a living in the valley—including farming hay, raising sheep, and eventually added cattle. Family members from later generations built fishing stores and a community dance hall.
To commemorate the long-standing family connection to the area, Red Ledges Land Development donated the land, play equipment, picnic tables, benches, has funded the construction project, and has added this dedicatory plaque:
The ribbon cutting event was attended by the local community. During the event, Heidi Franco, Heber City’s Mayor, and Mitchel Burns, Red Ledges’ Chief Operating Officer spoke. A few local kids talked about their favorite play features of the new playground.
The special event marked the transition of ownership of the Jordan Park from Red Ledges to Heber City—who will maintain and care for the park moving forward.
